Planet Labs is a San Francisco-based technology company with the stated mission of capturing detailed images of the Earth daily so that the changes the planet is experiencing can be documented, accessible to users, and actions can be taken.It designs products and solutions for satellite imaging so that it can be used in other applications.


The company has several products which can all be collectively used on its platform. Images are stored and users have cloud-based access to them. Planet Labs uses more than 120 satellites in orbit and has a fleet of sub-meter satellites as well.

Some of the products include Planet Monitoring, Planet Tasking, Planet Analytics, and more.Planet Labs states that it intends for the data collected by these images to aid businesses and humanitarian organizations in their endeavours concerning the Earth.Data that can be accessed by users from the images taken by Planet Labs include countable objects, such as houses and cars, and also aridity and photosynthetic activity.The data can be accessed using Planet Lab's interface, Basemaps. The software can be integrated into existing applications and provide machine-learning analytics.
