Open Source software is software that anyone can modify and freely share because its source code is publicly available under an Open Source license. The Open Source license is owned by the Open Source Initiative and is granted to anyone willing to conform to the Open Source Initiative's terms of free distribution. Under an open source licence the copyright holder allows people to freely view, modify, use, and share their software to anyone for any purpose. Open source software development is often done through the open collaboration of many software programmers in a public manner through online platforms such a Github or SourceForge.
