Blackstone is a global investment business investing capital and financial management firm. It caters to pension funds, large institutions, and individuals. It aims to build long-term value for investors through the stewardship of their capital. It invests in private equity, real estate, credit, and hedge funds as well as in infrastructure, life sciences, insurance, and growth equity.
Peter Peterson and Stephen Schwarzman founded Blackstone Group in 1985 and is headquartered in New York City. It has offices in Baltimore, Cambridge, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Wayne, London, Copenhagen, Dublin, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Mumbai, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo.
Schwarzman successfully raised $800 million in 1987 for Blackstone's first private equity fund, Blackstone Capital Partners I, L.P. Prudential Financial Inc. (PRU) and General Motors Company (GM) were two of the fund's largest investors. The money raised was used to purchase companies using a strategy called leveraged buyouts.
