Apollo Global Management, Inc. is a high-growth, global alternative asset manager. With a focus on three business strategies—yield, hybrid and equity—Apollo serves the retirement income and financial return needs of their clients and offers innovative capital solutions to businesses. The company trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under ticker APO. Apollo had its Initial Public Offering (IPO) on March 30, 2011.
Apollo Global Management was founded in 1990 by Josh Harris, Leon Black, and Marc Rowan and is headquartered in New York City. Marc Rowan is the CEO and Josh Harris is on the board and the executive committee. Leon Black stepped down as CEO and chairman in 2021, but still owns approximately 23 percent of Apollo. As of December 31, 2021, Apollo had approximately $498 billion of assets under management.
In March 2021, Apollo Global Management announced plans to merge with Athene Holding in an $11 billion all-stock deal. The two companies announced the completion of the merger on January 2, 2022.
As a result of the merger, the combined entity Apollo Global Management, Inc. now has two principal subsidiaries: Apollo Asset Management (formerly Apollo Global Management, Inc.), its alternative asset management business, and Athene, its retirement services business.
Apollo's Yield business helps companies access flexible, low-cost capital solutions to fund growth. Apollo's expertise includes corporate fixed income, direct lending, structured credit, and commercial real estate debt. Apollo’s Yield business is its largest asset management segment by Assets Under Management (AUM), with $351 billion as of September 30, 2021.
Apollo’s Hybrid strategies bring together debt and equity capabilities to provide companies, financial sponsors, and intermediaries with creative, expedient, and scaled capital solutions. Apollo's Hybrid strategies invest in all market environments. Apollo's Hybrid Assets Under Management (AUM) is $47 billion as of September 30, 2021.
Apollo’s Equity franchise supports management teams, business transformation, and growth under Apollo funds’ ownership, with strategies spanning traditional private equity, real estate, and impact investing. Apollo's Equity Assets Under Management (AUM) is $83 billion as of September 30, 2021.
