New Enterprise Associates, also known as NEA, is a private equity and venture capital firm established in 1977. The firm was founded by Richard Kramlich, Chuck Newhall, and Frank Bonsal. As a venture capital firm that operates globally, NEA has offices in the United States (Menlo Park, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, New York, Boston, and Chicago), China (Shanghai and Beijing), and India (Mumbai).
As of March 2019, the firm has invested in over 2,000 companies, although it currently has 428 companies in its portfolio. It has sold off its ownership in 782 companies. Its most recent investment was in Imara on March 2019, a company providing therapeutics products for people who suffer from sickle cell disease.
NEA provides capital for companies in various financing stages, from seed to public, through debt financing and venture growth equity. The firm funds companies from diverse industry sectors, with examples such as infrastructure software, life sciences, and e-commerce. It focuses on financing companies that are located in Asia (China, India, and Southeast Asia), Brazil, and the United States. Since its conception, the firm has managed to collect over $20 billion in total funds. It has recently finished raising funds for its Debut Growth Fund in December 2018, amassing $1.4 billion.
