The company was founded by William Lever, James Lever, and Samuel van den Bergh on September 2, 1929 the Margarine Unie company and the Lever Borthers signed a partnership agreement to form Unilever. The company was officially established as Unilever on January 1, 1930. In 1950, Unilever launched the Unilever Food & Health Research Institute to focus on increasing the nutritional quality and safety of their products.
