Koniku is based in Berkeley and has two initial related technologies, its 'odor positioning system' and its 'odor surveillance system'. The CEO of Koniku is Oshiorenoya Agabi and the company was part of the IndieBio startup incubator.

The first product Koniku is developing, called Koniku Kore, uses neuron-silicon hybrid chip to "smell" or otherwise sense the presence of a given compound. One stated aim of the biological neurons on a chip, called wetchips, is to use them as taste testers for consumer products. The CEO has also stated that future applications could include testing soap or other hygiene products.
