Tereos was founded in 1999 and is headquartered out of Lille, France. Tereos is a cooperative group with French Origins dating back to 1932 when Paul Cavenne originally set up the Origny Cooperative distillery processing sugar beets in the French Aisne department. Several cooperatives would later set up sugar factories and distilleries in the Aisne department, and Tereos emerged when these several cooperatives began developing closer business relationships.

Dobrovice sugar factory
In 1992, Tereos made their first acquisition of the Dobrovice sugar factory in the Czech Republic in hopes of establishing a production and marketing presence of sugar within central Europe.
