Plantible Foods operates out of San Marcos, California and was founded by Tony Martens and Maurits van de Ven in 2016. It is a food technology company using indoor aquaculture and protein extraction technologies to create organic protein ingredients. The company claims their technologies allow them to grow the worlds most protein efficient crop. They claim their aquacultures lemna provides a protein source that is 100x more protein efficient than soybeans, 400x more protein efficient than peas, and 50,000 more protein efficient than beef.

Plantible Foods is growing lemna using aquaculture and extracting proteins from the lemna to create a sustainable plant-based protein product called Floatein. Floatein has several properties which make it a unique protein ingredient, these properties include: a complete plant-based amino acid profile, colorless, flavorless, odorless, organic, free of the top 8 allergens, and can be used in ways which are functionally similar to egg whites.

Floatein is sold business to business by Plantible Foods to companies manufacturing consumer packaged goods, and is used as an alternative to soy, pea, and animal proteins. Examples of products Floatein can be used in are: dairy alternatives, meat alternatives, snacks, supplements, and beverages.
