BiomeSense, Inc. is a biotechnology company developing microbiome technologies for the collection, storage, and analysis of gut microbiome profiles that is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois and was founded in 2018 by Jack Gilbert and Savas Tay. The company is developing a biosensor for home use that can continuously gather gut microbiome data from the user and send the data to a cloud based analytics platform capable of generating clinical insights related to the users gut microbiome.
On February 20, 2019 BiomeSense announced raising an undisclosed amount of pre-seed funding from SOSV and IndieBio through participation in IndieBio's biotechnology accelerator program. BiomeSense participated in class 8 of the IndieBio accelerator program. After completing the IndieBio accelerator program the company claimed their technology platform reduces the cost of longitudinal microbiome collection and analysis by 30x.
On September 24, 2019 BiomeSense announced raising $2 million in seed funding from BioX Clan (lead investor), SOSV, and Seerave Foundation. The company planns on using their seed funding to launch their first clinical trials for their biosensor and data modelling platform. The co-founder and principal investigator of BiomeSense, Jack Gilbert, made the following statement regarding the company's seed funding and future plans for clinical trials:
