Spice AI is a Seattle-based start-up company building a developer-first platform to create artificial intelligence(AI) and machine learning(ML)-driven applications that harness time series data. The company's platform combines an open-source decision engine with ML-ready data, enabling developers to build the next generation of AI-driven applications.
Spice AI is currently in beta and free. The company plans to continue to offer a free tier and free APIs. For customers who need higher request or query limits, service guarantees, or priority support, the company plans to offer high-value, paid tiers based on usage. Spice AI's solutions are geared toward data-driven industries, such as marketing, gaming, marketplaces, security, financial services, trading, social networks, investing, and communications.
Spice AI introduced spice.xyz in April 2022. Spice.xyz is a data and AI infrastructure for Web3, which can combine public, private, and cross-chain data and make Web3 data easy. The platform enables developers to access Web3 data across blockchains via SQL over high-performance Apache Arrow APIs and is available in preview with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ethereum Name Service (ENS) datasets with work in progress to launch Solana and Polygon.
Spice.xyz extracts data from blockchains to power apps, and machine learning (ML) is difficult and complex, often forcing developers to build and operate a massively complex infrastructure that includes blockchain nodes, big data systems, ETL and ML pipelines, data lakes, data warehouses, and query systems.
Developers must also deeply understand the various data sources, including virtual-machine logs, and the inner workings and state of smart contracts, across a broad array of blockchains, scaling layers, and dApps. Spice.xyz is being built to solve these issues.
Spice AI was founded in June 2021 by Luke Kim and Phillip LeBlanc in Seattle, Washington. Later that year, the team raised their first $1 million in pre-seed funding and raised $13.5 million in seed funding in September 2022.
Before founding Spice AI, CEO Luke Kim spent eleven years at Microsoft, where he co-created the Incubations team at Azure and led the engineering work to create Dapr. CTO Phillip LeBlanc also worked at Microsoft on Azure Active Directory and Visual Studio App Center and at GitHub,working to improve the GitHub Actions developer experience.
