Mysterium is a blockchain and software development company creating the Mysteriurm Network that is headquartered in Zug, Switzerland was founded in 2010 by Robertas Visinskis, Paulius Mozuras, and Valdas Petrulis. The Mysterium Network is an open source security blockchain protocol and peer-to-peer decentralized Virtual Private Network (VPN) that has no staking and no master nodes. It provides a way for users to rent unused network traffic to other users looking for a decentralized, anonymous, and secure method of accessing the internet. Users buy and trade services on the Mysterium Network using the platforms native cryptocurrency token called MYST.
The Mysterium platform is compatible with nodes running on Windows, MacOS, and Raspberry Pi. The Mysterium network pays node operators monthly in Ethereum by calculating each nodes bandwidth contributions using an hourly rate. The minimum required upload speed of each node on the network is 5 Mbps, and each node must be contributing bandwidth for more that 24 hours a month to receive a payout.
On May 30, 2017 to May 30, 2017 Mysterium held their initial coin offering (ICO) selling approximately $13.33 million worth of their cryptocurrency token MYST.
