Motorola

Motorola, officially Motorola Mobility LLC, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lenovo. Motorola designs and manufactures all Moto and Motorola branded mobile handsets and solutions and has locations in North America, South America, Asia Pacific, and Europe. The president is Sergio Buniac, who works out of the Sao Paulo, Brazil office.

Motorola develops and manufactures mobile handsets, accessories, and other smart devices such as baby and nursery monitors, security and surveillance solutions, modems and routers, wearables, such as smartwatches, home and office phones, and portable power stations.

Motorola's mobile handset line includes the Razr, Motorola Edge, Moto G, and Motorola One.

On January 4, 2011, Motorola finalized its split into Motorola Mobility Holdings and Motorola Solutions. Motorola Mobility Holdings took on the company's mobile and consumer products business (like cell phones) while Motorola Solutions took on the next-generation communications products for enterprise and government (like police radios).

Motorola Mobility Holdings was subsequently acquired by Google in May 2012 for approximately $12.5 billion.

On October 30, 2014, Lenovo purchased Motorola from Google for approximately $2.91 billion, with Google taking a loss. However, as part of the transaction, Google retained most of Motorola's 17,000+ patents and Motorola’s advanced technology and projects team.

Motorola was originally incorporated under the name Galvin Manufacturing Corporation on September 25, 1928, in Chicago by brothers Paul and Joseph Galvin. In 1947, the company changed its name to Motorola. Over the past nintey-plus years, the company has developed and manufactured a variety of electronic and communication products, including radios, televisions, pagers, and mobile phones.
