Baidu Research

Baidu Research is the research wing of Baidu. It is co-located in Silicon Valley and Beijing, Baidu Research focuses on fundamental research in artificial intelligence. It focuses on deep learning, computer vision, speech recognition, speech synthesis, natural language processing, data mining and knowledge discovery, business intelligence, artificial general intelligence, high-performance computing, robotics and autonomous driving.

Baidu Research built a complete AI technology infrastructure composed of four layers: the algorithm layer, perceptron layer, cognitive layer, and platform layer. It opened more than ninety core AI capabilities in voice, image, video, augmented reality, natural language processing, knowledge graph, and data intelligence, among others. These are available to developers and partners through open application programming interfaces (APIs) and software development kits (SDKs).

In January of 2018, Baidu Research added a Business Intelligence Lab and a Robotics and Autonomous Driving Lab. The Business Intelligence Lab focuses on effective and efficient data analysis for emerging data applications. Whereas the Robotics and Autonomous Driving Lab focuses on computer vision and was expected to work on obstacle perception for Baidu's Apollo project.
