United States Naval Research Laboratory

The United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is a Washington, D.C.-based government unit that conducts research on applications for the Department of the Navy and the Department of Defense (DOD).The organization has directorates to focus on specific areas of research. Its directorates include executive directorate (a team of the NRL's Commanding Officer and Director of Research), business operations, systems, materials science and component technology, ocean and atmospheric science, and the naval center for space technology.

Since its inception in 1923, the NRL and its employees have won multiple awards, such as the President's National Medal of Science and the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
