The HAX accelerator is one of six start up incubators run by SOSV, and was founded in 2011 by Cyril Ebersweiler and Sean O'Sullivan. HAX accelerator offers startups developing hardware, robotics, and connected devices, and the opportunity to participate in their 6-12 month 2-stage start up incubation program.
The first stage of their startup incubation program is held in Shenzhen, China. During this time selected startups work alongside experts from the Shenzhen incubator ecosystem in engineering, design, and marketing to transition from a operating state of proof-of-principle to being ready to launch their products. Each startup is mentored on: technical sourcing, structural engineering, industrial design, mechanical design, supply chain management, branding, graphic design, marketing execution, market-entry strategy, fundraising, and product development strategy. Companies that are able to successfully build a scalable prototype of their product in Shenzhen move onto stage 2 of the HAX Accelerator program.
The second stage of the HAX accelerator program is located in San Francisco, California for companies who successfully built a ready to take to market prototype of their product during stage one of the accelerator program. During their time in San Francisco, each start up focuses on securing their first round of venture funding, selling their first product, and securing their first business partnership. Startups are coached by HAX accelerator mentors in sales, marketing, public relations, and fundraising. HAX Accelerator's goal for each participating startup during their accelerator program in San Francisco is to have "100 meetings in 90 days".
