FreshDirect

FreshDirect is the provider of an online retail platform to sell food and grocery products. The company is committed to sourcing fresh meat, fish, farm produces, grocery products, and specialty items through relationships with suppliers, growers, and farmers. It delivers directly to customers throughout five states, including the New York City metropolitan area, the Philadelphia metropolitan area, and the greater D.C. metropolitan area. FreshDirect was founded in 2002 by Joe Fedele, Jason Ackerman, and David Mcinerney.

FreshDirect says their platform relies on custom software which works to know the size, shape, and location of every orderable item to decrease the packaging time and deliver it to the customer faster. Part of this system includes packaging designed to keep fresh produce free of bruises and keep eggs from arriving cracked. The software also stores users' shopping lists for faster reordering.

In 2016, FreshDirect introduced FoodKick, offering one-hour delivery in select locations. Through FoodKick, users are able to order food, alcohol, and other essentials.
