Feathercoin (FTC or ₣) is an open source cryptocurrency project that was forked from Litecoin in 2018. The developers of Feathercoin claim that Feathercoin is 10 times faster than Bitcoin and uses a block hashing algorithm called NeoScrypt; which is the projects own modified version if Scrypt. An enhanced Hash Rate Compensation (eHRC) algorithm is used to ensure blocks occur at an average of 60 seconds and reward 40 Feathercoins per block. Feathercoin also implements an Automatic Checkpointing system that protects miners from manipulating the chain history and prevents 51% attacks from reversing transactions on the network. Feathercoin cryptocurrency wallets are available for Windows, Mac, Linux, IOS, and Android.

The hashing algorithm chosen for Feathercoin was the Proof-of-Work NeoScrypt, which had premiered on Phoenixcoin. NeoScrypt is 25% more memory intense, which makes it less feasible to create ASICs for it.

The main programmer is Peter Bushnell, at the time running the information technology for the Brasenose College of Oxford University.

One month after launching Feathercoin, Peter Bushnell left his job as head of IT at the Brasenose College of Oxford University and lived off his Litecoin savings.
