Deep Space Industries is a company that is building spacecraft technology for private missions in deep space. The company was founded by Bryan Versteeg, Christopher Cassell, James Wolff, Jim Luebke, and Sagi Kfir in 2012, in San Jose, California, United States.
The company looks to develop and build spacecraft technology that can allow private companies and government agencies to traverse through the solar system. Deep Space Industries, however, was acquired by Bradford Space in 2019, but did so while claiming to maintain the goal of eventually extracting resources from asteroids in space by using smaller spacecraft.
Deep Space Industries has since changed focus towards the production small satellites, and has produced the propulsion system called Comet, which uses water as a propellant. On December 3, 2018, SpaceX Falcon 9 launched using thrusters from DSI, and carrying four of their satellites.
Eventually Bradford Space and Deep Space Industries will be rebranded entirely as Bradford Space or BSI, and will work towards their satellite bus called Xplorer, which will be used specifically for out-of-Earth missions.
