BioVectra is a biotechnology company manufacturing therapeutic pharmaceuticals for treating cancer, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, multiple sclerosis, and other diseases that is headquartered in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and was founded in 1970 by Dr. Regis Duffy. The company has the following capabilities to produce: microbial fermentation for active pharmaceutical ingredients, high potency active pharmaceutical ingredients, complex chemistry production, production of biologics, drug development, and process & analytical development.
On March 12, 2019 BioVectra announced receiving $37.5 million from The Government of Canada's Strategic Innovation Fund. The investment was the largest investment made by the Strategic Innovation Fund in Atlantic Canada. At the time of receiving funding, the company also announced a five year $144.6 million expansion project to increase the biopharmaceutical production capabilities of facilities in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and Windsor, Nova Scotia.
