SpaceFab.US designs and develops space manufacturing services that are meant to enable long-term human presence in space. The company was founded in 2016, in Laguna Niguel, California, United States.
SpaceFab.US looks to launch their first generation satellite in 2022. The satellite is equipped with a space telescope with 50cm optics, and will provide services for researchers, corporations, as well as the public for astronomical observations of both space and Earth. Later, SpaceFab.US has the aims to build a line of robotic asteroid mining and manufacturing satellites that have the capability of making, forming, welding, and assembling metal parts into large structures. This allows them to construct large objects in space by means of robotics, electric propulsion, and 3D printing technologies.
Their first satellite will be utilized for Earth observations, astronomy, and space situational awareness moments. The use their laser communication systems for data downlinks and satellite-to-satellite communications to provide data transfers. The electronics that SpaceFab uses are customized to be operational in the high-radiation environments they are introduced to. The satellite will also be equipped with self-repair capabilities through its multi-jointed robot arms that deal with space debris.
