Olaf Carlson-Wee is an American cryptocurrency technology entrepreneur and investor based in San Francisco, California. He is best known as Coinbase's first employee. Olaf is the founder of Polychain Capital.

Olaf Carlson-Wee was born and raised in the state of Minnesota, where he grew up near the border of Fargo, North Dakota.
Secondary school, Olaf went to Vassar College where he graduated with a Bachelor's certificate in Sociology. Close to the last end of his scholastic profession he worked on his senior distinctions proposal dependent on Bitcoin. At that point, in 2011/2012, not a great deal of examination was done in scholarly community encompassing digital money and Bitcoin.
After graduating from Vassar College in 2012, he joined the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase in 2013 as the first employee of the firm. During his stay he was paid in bitcoins for three years.
He left Coinbase and founded the cryptocurrency investment firm, Polychain Capital in 2016. The firm secured investments from venture capital firms Sequoia Capital, Union Square Ventures and Founders Fund. The firm claimed $1 billion assets in 2017 but dropped to $591.5 million as of the end of 2018, majorly due to the drop in the value of its holdings. The firm manages assets worth more than $4 billion as of April, 2021 according to Forbes.
In July 2017, Carlson-Wee appeared on the cover of Forbes’ issue under the caption, "Craziest Bubble Ever." In 2018, he was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. He featured in Fortune magazine's 40 Under 40 in 2018.
