Naked Biome is a biotechnology and microbiome-based therapeutics company headquartered in San Francisco, California and founded by Emma Taylor in 2015. Naked Biome uses their own drug discovery genomics platform develop treatments for skin disease and conditions. The company identifies unique microbial signatures produced by harmful bacteria that is naturally present on the skin, causing acne or other health problems, and uses beneficial bacteria to get rid of the identified harmful bacteria. Their drug discovery platform is used to perform a genotype and phenotype analysis to identify functionally important genes that are capable of producing prospective drug candidates which can be used to treat acne or other skin conditions.
On April 5, 2017 Naked biome closed their seed funding round raising $5 million in funding from undisclosed investors. They plan on using this funding to pay for clinical proof-of-principle trials.
