Marissa Mayer is a computer scientist, founder, and business executive. As an engineer, Mayer specializes in artificial intelligence and holds two degrees from Stanford. Her career began immediately following her Stanford education, when she took a position as a software engineer at Google that same year. Mayer was the first female software engineer hired by Google. She was periodically promoted to higher positions within the company, and by 2005, she was vice president of Search Products and User Experience. In 2010, She took on a new appointment as vice president of Maps and Location Services for Google. She is credited with having a large impact on the development of the company, during her 13-year career at Google.
Mrs. Mayer stayed with Google until 2012, when she became CEO of Yahoo! Mrs. Meyer stayed with Yahoo! for five years, leaving in 2017.
Currently, Marissa Mayer is CEO of the company Sunshine, which she co-founded in 2018 with Enrique Muñoz Torres.Sunshine develops a variety of AI powered mobile apps, and first began launching products in November of 2020. At this time, the company announced its rebranding, from its former name, Lumi Labs. Their first product, Sunshine Contacts, was released on November 18, 2020.
In addition to her executive and engineering ventures, Marissa Mayer is an active investor. She has made investments in companies such as IfOnly, NextLesson, TripleByte, Cleo, The Wonder, January, Alma Campus, Brit + Co, Minted, Square, and more.
Marissa Meyer holds a number of board positions, including serving on the board of directors at Walmart since 2012.
Marissa Mayer was born on May 30, 1975, in Wausau, Wisconsin. She grew up in Wausau with her family (father, mother, and brother) and attended Wausau West High School. In 1993, Marissa Mayer began studying at Stanford University, graduating in 1997 with a BS in Symbolic Systems. She continued her studies at Stanford, receiving her Masters in Computer Science in 1999.
