H4D (Hacking For Defense) is a university course that was piloted at Stanford University in 2016. The course is focused on engaging university students in programs that allow them to develop solutions to emerging threats to the United States. It is a program of the National Security Innovation Network (NSIN), powered by BMNT, Inc. and the Common Mission Project.
Students enrolled at participating universities can register for the course where they are assigned a sponsor organization with a military or intelligence problem. The students work in teams guided by mentors to create and develop prototypes of solutions for their sponsors.Some participating universities include Columbia University, Duke University, and the University of Pittsburgh.
