Built Robotics is a San Francisco-based company which has a focus on making heavy equipment operation autonomous using LIDAR, global positioning systems, and additional sensors.
The company creates kits, officially referred to as "AI Guidance Systems," that can be integrated into existing heavy equipment that is used for earth moving, such as excavators (used for foundation excavation trenching, and loading trucks), dozers (used for rough and finish grading), and skid steers (used for material handling and more).Built Robotics' kits are available for purchase or rent. The technology uses sensors that can detect people, animals, and other vehicles. There are also cameras on an around the equipment.
The robotic machinery can only work within a specified work zone and shuts down if it goes down outside of that zone. It also has sensors to understand what is under the ground and if something should be detected that is not supposed to be there, the machine will also shut down at that time. There is a wireless emergency stop feature as an extra security measure.
