The World Resources Institute's self stated mission is to "move human society to live in ways that protect Earth's environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspiration of current and future generations." To secure a sustainable future for humanity the World Resources Institute is focusing on research on how to improve: climate, energy, food, forests, water, and sustainable cities. Sustainability research initiatives are organized within four centers, business, economics, finance, and governance, operated by The World Resource Institute.
