The State Space Agency of Ukraine (SSAU) is the Ukrainian state agency responsible for space policy and programs. The main tasks of the SSAU include developing state policy in the realm of space, organizing and developing space activities inside Ukraine and abroad, and contributing to state national security and defense.
The SSAU is one of two descendants of the Soviet space program, alongside the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos). The Ukrainian agency taking over all of the former Soviet defense complexes inside Ukraine's territory. Soviet facilities in Ukraine primarily focused on technological support (Kyiv and Kharkiv) and rocket manufacturing (Dnipro).
The agency signed NASA's Artemis Agreement on November 13, 2020, becoming the ninth signatory to join the international agreement. The Artemis Agreement is a pact by nations worldwide to contribute to the research of the Moon, Mars, comets, and asteroids for peaceful purposes.
