Physna is a Cincinnati, Ohio-based computer software company. Through geometric deep learning and algorithm technology, Physna codifies 3D models into data understandable by software applications thus enabling 3D models to be treated and analyzed like other code. Physna's software is used in the aerospace, defense, automotive, healthcare, product design, industrial machining industries for engineering and CAD design, 3D printing, augmented reality, and virtual reality applications.
Physna's platform breaks down 3D files into a codified structure which creates a "DNA-like" structure representative of the 3D model. The digitized model allows Physna to show differences and similarities between models, even incomplete models or models with different file formats and determine how models relate to each other. Physna's artificial intelligence and search engine software allows users to also find model matches by predicting descriptions, classifications, cost, and materials.
Launched in August 2020, Thangs is a geometric search engine and online community for 3D model creation intended to support product designer, engineers, and enthusiasts. Thangs launched with more than one million indexed 3D models and search, collaboration, and machine learning tools to source and develop 3D models. Capabilities include shared folders, version control, and social media functions for feedback and advice from users. Physna sees Thangs as a Google or GitHub concept for 3D files. Thangs uses technology from Physna's enterprise product, but it is an open product available for all users. Paul Powers, speaking on Thangs, said:
This product [Thangs] is built to be powerful enough for a leading aerospace CAD engineer, yet simple enough for literally anyone to use. Thangs gives everyone not only access to 3D data, but utility from it as well as using some of the most cutting-edge technology available today.
