NSGIC’s membership is comprised of senior state geographic information system (GIS) managers and coordinators and representatives from federal agencies, local governments, the private sector, academia, and other professional organizations.

NSGIC initiatives include 3DEP for the nation, addresses and transportation, continuum of natural disasters, geo-enabled elections, geospatial preparedness, geospatial maturity assessment, GeoWomen, GIS operation resources and guides, maps and apps, Next Generation 9-1-1, sponsored programs, the State Caucus, and the Western States Caucus. NSGIC hosts two annual informational and networking events for its members in rotating cities: the Midyear Meeting, held in early spring, and the Annual Conference, held in early fall.
