The National Geographic Society is an American organization founded in 1888 by Gardiner Greene Hubbard, Frank Baker (physician), Charles J. Bell (businessman), and Alexander Graham Bell. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Society's main purpose is to support scientific fieldwork, explore, and educate the public about the environment and natural resources. They mainly operate in the genomics industry.
The Society publishes National Geographic magazine, and also owns subsidiaries such as Nat Geo Wild and National Geographic channels. One of their competitors in the field is the American Geographical Society.
