The Metropolitan Museum of Art, also known as The Met, is a museum located in New York City in the United States. It is an active 501(c)(3) organization in the museum industry. The Met was founded on April 13, 1870, by John Taylor Johnston and Irene Lewisohn.
The museum is located in two addresses: 1000 Fifth Avenue New York, New York 10028-0198, and 99 Margaret Corbin Drive Fort Tryon Park New York, New York 10040. The Met has two subsidiaries: The Cloisters and the Anna Wintour Costume Center. Additionally, the museum owns a collection of photographs.
