Envision (company)

Envision is a Delft-based artificial intelligence company that has developed a platform with assistive technology that uses audio to describe the visual world to vision impaired individuals.Its stated goal is to allow visually impaired people live more independently in a visual-centric world.It can be downloaded on iOs or Android devices.

There are two primary tools on the platform. The first is a text-recognizing tool that can read any kind of text in over 60 languages.The application can read aloud short texts from objects such as street signs and price labels. It can also read hand-written text and longer texts. For this tool there is audio guidance giving indication to the user as to where they need to position the camera in order for the tool to work efficiently.

The second tool is a general recognition feature. It can audibly describe scenes that are occurring in front of the user or images on the mobile device. It can also detect over 900 colors, which can be utilized when shopping for clothing amongst other goods. This feature can also scan barcodes and be taught to recognize faces of familiar individuals and objects.
