Enterprise Investors is a private equity and venture capital investment firm headquartered in Warsaw, Poland. It was co-founded in 1990 by John P. Birkelund and Robert Faris. The firm specializes in mid-market buyouts and providing growth stage capital in companies with a proven record of profit located in Central and Eastern Europe. Two-thirds of the company's investments are Polish-based. It makes an average investment of between EUR 20-75 million with stakes ranging from minority board position to full ownership, with the company's involvement usually lasting from five to eight years.
Since 1990, Enterprise Investors has raised nine funds with total capital exceeding approximately USD$2.7 billion. These funds have invested approximately USD$2.4 billion in 151 companies. The company's total gross proceeds from 135 exits amount to an estimated USD$4.6 billion. Enterprise Investors has invested in the real estate, healthcare, consumer products, insurance, energy, renewable energy, tourism, and medical equipment sectors. The firm has offices in Warsaw, Bratislava, Bucharest, Budapest, Prague, and New York. In addition, Enterprise Investors established five banks, including Poland’s first mortgage bank. The firm has also helped bring more companies on the Warsaw Stock Exchange public than any other private equity investor active in the region.
