Cheever is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He started learning computer programming in elementary school and developed his skills throughout high school. He attended Harvard College and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in computer science.
In 2003, Cheever started to work as a software development engineer at Amazon. He had connections to the creators of Facebook because they all had attended Harvard together. Utilizing this network, Cheever was offered a position of software engineering manager at Facebook, which he took. After working for the company for three years, he left to start his first company with Adam D'Angelo. The company has created a platform called Quora where users can ask questions and get responses from other users. In 2015, Cheever started his second company, Expo. With the product from this company web developers can build native mobile applications that work for both Android and iOS systems.
