Aerogel Technologies is an online distributor of aerogel materials and offers custom aerogel solutions. The company was founded in 2004, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
Their proprietary Airloy Ultramaterials are designed to be mechanically robust aerogels with the strength to survive in real-world applications. Their airloys are three to fifteen times lighter than plastics and composites, but are able to provide the same strength and durability as these materials. The airloys can offer up to 50% more thermal insulation than foams, and are capable of soundproofing. Some of the properties that their airloy's are made to have include their ability to be superinsulating, soundproof, non-flammable, water-resistant, transparent, high-temperature, thermoformable, and can be made in various shapes, forms, and sizes.
The airloys and aerogels can be made in large machinable panels, specific molded 3D shapes, thin and flexible films, and as large or small as needed. Aerogels are able to be used across various needs due to their ultralight structures and ultralow-density, and allow materials like silica, carbon, polymer, and metal aerogels more accessible and affordable for scientific and engineering applications. Aerogel Technologies sells aerogel materials to the public online, providing aerogel monoliths, aerogel particles, and aerogel blankets.
Aerogel Technologies has worked within the American space program in pursuit of aiding space exploration. The company has been partnered with NASA, and the NASA Glenn Research Center since 2016, through scientific research collaborations, licensing new technologies, and public outreach efforts.
