Wassily Leontief

Wassily Leontief was a Russian-American economist and statistician who was born on August 5, 1905, in Munich . He held citizenships in Russia and the United States . Leontief studied at Saint Petersburg State University , Humboldt University of Berlin , Harvard University , and Friedrich Wilhelm University . His doctoral advisor was Ladislaus Bortkiewicz .

Leontief was known for his work in input-output analysis and was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1973 . Throughout his career, he made contributions to the field of economics and science . Some of his notable doctoral students included Paul Samuelson , Vernon L. Smith , and Robert Solow .

Wassily Leontief passed away in New York City on February 5, 1999 . He had a child named Svetlana Alpers .
