When opening their restaurant "Next" in 2011, the founders decided to sell tickets to the restaurant instead of taking reservations. After the system's success there, Alinea moved to a ticketing model in 2012. Other Chicago-area restaurants started using the ticketing system in 2013. In 2014, Nick Kokonas wrote a blog post about the model and its impact on the restaurants he co-owned.
