Two of the Tock founders, Nick Kokonas and Grant Achatz, are also the founders of the restaurant Alinea as well as several others in the Chicago area.
History
When opening their restaurant "Next" in 2011, the founders decided to sell tickets to the restaurant instead of taking reservations. After the system's success there, Alinea moved to a ticketing model in 2012. Other Chicago-area restaurants started using the ticketing system in 2013. In 2014, Nick Kokonas wrote a blog post about the model and its impact on the restaurants he co-owned.
