ThunderCore combines a centralized approach with a decentralized approach to achieve the scalability and speed of centralized approaches, while maintaining the decentralized nature of the blockchain
ThunderCore’s blockchain consists of consensus nodes that complete a single round of voting to confirm transactions in under a second. The ThunderCore accelerator-- a robust, DDoS-resilient distributed system-- coordinates the network of consensus nodes. Users do not need trust the accelerator or individual consensus nodes, only the honest majority of peers.
ThunderCore combines a “slow chain” with an optimized “fast-path” which is executed by a committee of stake holders and coordinated by a central authority called the Accelerator. The Accelerator’s job is to linearize transactions and data to enable high throughput and instant transaction confirmation. When the Accelerator misbehaves, the slow chain is utilized to ensure no damage is done to the blockchain and to recover in a provably sound manner. Initially the Ethereum blockchain will act as the slow chain, and a single Accelerator will be used. In later versions, the system will be extended to multiple shards, each with their own Accelerator.
Anyone can become a committee member by staking tokens, and then 500 nodes are selected using a provably fair mechanism. Both committee members and the Accelerator are rewarded via block rewards and transaction fees
