The Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits, is a religious order within the Catholic Church founded on January 1, 1539. It was founded by Ignatius of Loyola, Francis Xavier, and Peter Faber. The order is named after Jesus and operates under the parent organization, the Latin Church, which belongs to the larger Catholic Church.
The Jesuits own several institutions, properties, and publications, including La Civiltà Cattolica, Castle of Xavier, Loyola University Andalusia, Boix House, and the Catholic Standard in Guyana. They also have subsidiaries such as the Jesuit Refugee Service and Centro Bonó.
The Society of Jesus has been instrumental in founding various educational institutions like the Saint Louis University and San Francesco Saverio in Rimini. Its operations are based out of Vatican City, and the organization is led by Arturo Sosa as its CEO.
