SingleStore was founded in 2011 by Adam Prout, Eric Frenkiel, and Nikita Shamgunov and was previously known as MemSQL. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in Sunnyvale, California; Seattle; Raleigh; and Lisbon. SingleStore has partnerships with IBM, Red Hat, Virtusa, FiServ, InfoSys, and Tata. And has had customers including Uber, Akamai, Dell EMC, Samsung, Comcast, and Kellogg.

SingleStoreDB is a distributed SQL database designed for data-intensive applications, intended to be distributed and highly scalable, capable of running anywhere. The on-premise deployment of the platform is intended to deliver performance for transactional and analytical workloads with familiar relational models. The platform is capable of ingesting millions of events per second while simultaneously analyzing billions of rows of data in relational SQL, JSON, geospatial, and full-text search formats.

SingleStoreDB Cloud is a deployment of SingleStore's platform that works to deliver instant access to the scalable data platform to help power an enterprise's data-intensive applications. The cloud deployment offers quick set-up for enterprises, without the need for configuring and maintaining the software. The cloud deployment also offers scalability as the cloud allows for elasticity in the deployment, capable of growing or shrinking to meet the enterprise's needs. The cloud deployment is also capable of working with on-premise deployments. The SingleStoreDB offers a separation of storage and compute with Suspend and Resume functions to enable flexibility and operational efficiencies.

MemSQL, now called SingleStotre was founded in 2011. The company offers a database for operational analytics and AI/ML-powered applications that requires fast data ingest, high performance queries and elastic scaling with familiar relational SQL.
