Shoes, like clothes, which was used for coating and protection of the foot, were used even in the pre-history. Especially used skin from skin of animals. The first designs were basic and without the soleplate, because they were simply made of a solid part, tied or fixed on the leg. In ancient Egypt used sandals, especially due to the climate, with papyrus, straw and palm fiber.
Production and use of shoes became popular in such a way that some people were exclusively devoted to their production. Thus, the shewmen began to establish themselves in the guildic times of the Roman Empire.
Footwear has evolved, and, in addition to its mostly practical function, it has also been given esthetic, orthopedic and identification value for a group or social class. Materials, forms and colors were changed depending on natural resources of each area, climatic features, personal tastes and fashion.
