Rinat Leonidovych Akhmetov is a Ukrainian businessman, billionaire, and the founder of System Capital Management and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. He is also the owner and president of FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
System Capital Management, also known as SCM Holdings, was founded by Akhmetov in 2000. It is a holding company that manages several sectoral sub-holdings and production assets including DTEK, Metinvest, Media Group Ukraine, and others.
Akhmetov established the Foundation for Development of Ukraine, now known as the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, on July 15, 2005. It was created to address the root causes of social problems and develop strategies to consistently improve social development. The foundation has helped reduce the prevalence of the Ukrainian tuberculosis epidemic, rehomed thousands of Ukrainian orphans, and helped tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens by providing various forms of emergency assistance as needed. In 2020, the Foundation began making efforts to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by donating ventilators, PPE, and rapid test kits to Ukraine.
