Our World in Data is an Oxford-based non-profit company that has a website which is capable of utilizing data to create graphs representing information about the world's problems, such as poverty, disease, and climate change.
The company states that it has two focus points for its website: to identify issues that affect society long-term and to discover changes of patterns that could lead to resolutions of the aforementioned issues. The website uses data and technology to create visuals that show trends in global issues, such as violence and hunger, change over time. Global issues, such as the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak, can be tracked using the website. Data is collected from specialized institutions, research articles, and international institutions or statistical agencies, such as the World Bank. Both historical and present data is used to create the images and show the progress of a topic over time. The images and graphs on the website can be downloaded and are licensed under CC BY.
Our World in Data is funded by grants and reader donations. It has received notable grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as Susanne Klatten.
