Richardson was raised on the Southwest Side of Chicago in the Leclaire Courts housing projects. She is an alumnus of Curie Metropolitan High School, Northwestern University, Loyola University Chicago, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. She is married to Demietrius Richardson and she has three daughters.
Richardson began her career as a financial aid counselor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1995 followed by Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Moraine Valley Community College in 1997. She then began serving as Assistant Vice President with American Home Mortgage in 2003 and as Vice President at JPMorgan Chase in 2008.
Richardson has served as a financial contributor for Essence magazine and MadameNoire magazine, Global Grind, and RushCard. She has appeared as a guest speaker television shows The Steve Harvey Show, Good Day L.A., and Let's Talk Live, and radio shows The Tom Joyner Morning Show, Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell, and The Al Rucker Show. She has also appeared as a spokesperson on BET, including Jackson Hewitt Tax Tips, Cricket Wireless Money Saving Tips, and Nationwide Big Tips for Small Business. She also hosted the radio show Wealth 'n Real Estate on WVON-AM in Chicago.
In 2008, Richardson began serving as National Home Ownership Advisory Council Chair and Chief Operations Executive of Russell Simmons' and Benjamin Chavis' Hip Hop Summit Action Network.
In 2012, Richardson also began serving as the COO of MC Lyte's company Sunni Gyrl Inc.
In 2016, Richardson launched The W.E.A.L.T.H. Experience, a three-day annual retreat, in partnership with MC Lyte, Kelly Price, Faith Evans, Erica Campbell, and Nicci Gilbert.
W.E.A.L.T.H. is an acronym for Womanhood, Expansion, Assets, Leadership, Transformation, and Health.
She also released the financial management app Wealthy World for Apple and Android.
In 2008, Richardson created the HBCU Health, Wealth 'n Real Estate tour with State Farm and Ian Smith's 50 Million Pound Challenge. The tour included Howard University, Hampton University, and Clark-Atlanta University.
Richardson has served as a keynote speaker on panels at the Circle of Sisters Expo with Prudential Financial in 2012, the Women, Wealth, and Relationships event at Texas Southern University in 2013, the BET Experience with Creme of Nature and Soul Train Awards with Creme of Nature in 2014, BET Experience with Ameriprise Financial in 2015, and the National Urban League Convention in 2016.
In April 2018, Richardson was a keynote speaker at The Sistahs in Business Expo (SIBEXPO) in Newark, New Jersey, along with MC Lyte. She was also a speaker at the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference in June 2018.
In 2012, Richardson co-founded Hip Hop Sisters Foundation with MC Lyte. The foundation has awarded over $750,000 in college scholarships to young men and women.
