Overview

London Co-Investment Fund (LCIF) is a public-private equity based venture capital fund. The fund is a joint venture of the London Mayor's office, the Local Enterprise Partnership for London, and a number of private investors. The fund is managed and run by Funding London.

The fund's primary aim is to accelerate the growth of London-based startups. To qualify for funding, companies must have a London-based office, a goal to fundraise between £250,000 and £1 million, and have a product or service based in the science, technology, or digital sector.

History

The fund was annouced on December 4th, 2014 by London Mayor Boris Johnson. The idea for the fund orginated with Capital Enterprise. The fund's intial capital was comprised of £25 million from the London Mayor's office and £60 million from six private investors, Wellington Partners, Playfair Capital, Angel Lab, Firestartr, London Business Angels and Crowdcube. In 2017, the fund annocued it had made 106 investments. In 2019, the fund reported it was no longer taking applications for funding.
