Established in 2019, Lighthouse is a small personal real estate software company providing a marketplace for apartment rentals. The company offers cashback to renters by sharing earnings from placing renters in apartments. Users create a profile by answering a series of questions, and they get a list of apartments according to their specifications. They are matched with a Lightkeeper, an apartment specialist who researches, selects listings, schedules tours, and assists with the application process.
Once an application is approved, users are sent a link to their account dashboard to set up their cashback payment. They are provided with the option to link their bank account for direct deposit. Lighthouse makes use of Plaid, a financial transfer app for sending direct, ACH money transfers to users' accounts.
Users are required to write in Lighthouse as their referral source in order to get cashback payments. Apartments on Lighthouse offer users the option to pick either a lump sum or monthly payments. If users opt for monthly payments, they will receive 50 percent more over the course of the lease. Lighthouse plans to incentivize users for on-time monthly payments and only offers a lump sum if a user's cashback amount is below $300.
