The flagship university of the Kostroma region was established in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation No. 196 dated March 10, 2016 by reorganizing two universities in the form of joining: the Kostroma State University named after N. A. Nekrasov to the Kostroma State Technological University. Academic councils and administrations of universities decided to follow the principle of equal association during the accession.

KSU is one of the 11 flagship universities in Russia of the “first wave”. Among the many applicants, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation chose him. This indicates a worthy base of Kostroma State University and a high potential for further development and improvement.

In December 2017, KSU became the winner of the federal priority project "Universities as centers of innovation creation space" and received the status of a university center for innovative, technological and social development of the region.

The total area of ​​the university is 162 thousand square meters. m. The university campus includes 18 educational and 7 residential buildings. KSU has 8 institutes, which teach in 47 areas of training. Educational programs are adjusted to meet the needs of modern life. During training, each student has the opportunity to receive two specialties at once.

44% of the areas of training are social and humanitarian specialties, 33% - mathematical, natural sciences, engineering and technical, 23% - pedagogical.

8,000 students study at KSU, of which 6,742 are undergraduate students, 118 are specialized students, and 1,140 are master students.

The teaching staff of our university is 524 people, of which 73 are doctors of science, 313 are candidates of science. The teaching staff for 80% consists of teachers under the age of 47 years.

Kostroma State University actively cooperates with a number of European universities. Our students regularly train at these universities on the most favorable terms. The student and teacher exchange program is successfully operating (studying at a European university from a month to six months).

An interesting creative and sports life of students, the opportunity to engage in scientific research, take part in competitions and olympiads of the highest level, start their career already in the third or fourth year of the university - all this attracts young people to the Kostroma State not only from the Kostroma region, but also from many regions of Russia. In 2017, children from 38 regions of our country entered KSU. In addition, we have foreign students from 20 countries.
