Overview

James (Jamie) Siminoff is an American inventor and entrepreneur, best known as the founder and chief inventor at Ring.

Career
Ring

Siminoff created the wifi video doorbell, now known as Ring, in his garage in 2011. It was originally known as Doorbot. Siminoff first raised funds for his invention via crowdfunding, and in 2013, he featured his invention on the reality television show Shark Tank. Although the judges on the show declined to invest in Ring, Siminoff credited the exposure he received on Shark Tank with bringing momentum and exposure to his company. Subsequent to his appearance on Shark Tank, Siminoff received investments from Richard Branson, Peter Pham, Shaquille O’Neal, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm Ventures, and others. In 2018, Amazon acquired Ring for $1 billion.

Shark Tank

Despite his lack of success on the show, Siminoff has since appeared as a "Guest Shark" on Shark Tank.

  • SimulScribe—SimulScribe was a voicemail-to-text company, which Siminoff founded in 2005 and sold to DiTech for $17 million in 2009.
  • Ditech Networks—After selling Simulscribe, Siminoff became the chief strategy advisor for Ditech, serving from September 2009 until September 2011.
  • Body Mint—An unsuccessful venture, Siminoff founded Body Mint, a chlorophyll dietary supplement designed to eliminate body odor.
  • Unsubscribe.com—Siminoff founded and was the CEO of Unsubscribe, a technology platform designed to stop unwanted email. In 2011, Unsubscribe.com was sold to TrustedID.
Education

Siminoff graduated from Babson College with a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship in 1999. While at Babson, he ran a business called Gadget Tronics, selling televisions and stereos. After delivering the class of 2021 commencement speech at Babson, Siminoff was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

Personal Life

Siminoff is married to Erin (Lindsey) Siminoff. Their son, Oliver, was born with the rare genetic condition galactosemia, which affects how the body processes dairy products. Siminoff has focused efforts on finding a cure for the condition and has teamed with doctors at Children's Hospital Boston and Harvard to create the Galactosemia Stem Cell Research project.
