Inner Mongolia Agricultural University is a multi-disciplinary university with agriculture and forestry as its main subject and grassland animal husbandry as its feature. It has 8 disciplines including agriculture, engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law and art. It has a complete higher education system for training vocational colleges, bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctor's degree. In 2001, it became one of the key universities supported by the National "One Province, one University" for the development of the Western Region. In 2012, it became a university under the "provincial and ministerial cooperation" of the State Forestry Administration (now the National Forestry and Grassland Administration) and the People's government of autonomous Region. In 2013, it entered the list of universities supported by the national "Central and Western Higher Education Revitalization Plan".
